It is curious why Mochipet named his latest Mashup/Remix Album: “10 REASONS TO LOVE HATE LOVE HATE DUBSTEP” considering there are 16 tracks on this release and many of them are not even technically considered Dubstep, but what we do know is that it is a collection of hard hitting Remixes from our Godzilla like Beatsmith from the San Francisco Bay Area, some old, some new, some unreleased but all worth checking out. The remixes range from Hip-Hop to Hipster to straight up well… Def Leppard! Mochipet makes these beats his bitch and you’ll be hard pressed to find one you don’t “Love” or “Hate” or is it a “Love Hate” relationship? Anyways, be sure to check out his rendition of AC/DC’s “Big Balls” and Devo’s Whipit! They will get your mind as well as booty moving in no time!

I like albums with audacious concepts. Often, though, the music itself is boring, the concept simply serving as a crutch. When I first heard the newest offering by Mochipet (Taiwan-born David Wang), I had no idea that it was a concept album — and I liked it. My point being that good concept albums don’t ever live in the shadow of their concepts: the music is simply enriched by an understanding of the artist’s singular intentions. And in this case, they’re quite singular: Chicxulub, as the press release states, “is the soundtrack for an animated novel in which the Dinosaurs make their way through the impact of the comet believed to have destroyed them.”
Chronology is kind of a funny thing. If I had read that ridiculous description before my maiden voyage with the album, the music would definitely have disappointed me. The bombastic concept would have completely drowned out the music, I’m sure. But because I read it after listening to the album, everything instead clicked into place, and all of the elements of the music that I liked made more sense, giving the album a level of narrative depth of which I was previously unaware, appreciative as I was of the record’s epic synth textures. Suddenly the album’s scope, its plodding glitch-hop and huge synths, became panoramic.

Mochipet’s first show in Durango Colorado was a hit! The venue said no dancers on the stage but when the beats hit no one could contain themselves. Who knew this little mountain town could rage so hard on a Wednesday night!
Thanks for getting this on video, Steven Eckelberry!

While many DJs can say they’ve performed alongside dance music icons such as Rusko, Bassnectar, and Mary Anne Hobbs, few can honestly claim that they’ve worn a purple furry dinosaur suit the entire time. Bay Area native Mochipet , who began his career with his well-known album, Girls Love Breakcore, has demonstrated his passion for music through residences in L.A., his founding of Daly City Records, and his collaboration with a 20-piece orchestra that performed his composition “Dessert Search for Techno Baklava” at Carnegie Hall, among other notable venues. He chatted with All Shook Down about breakcore, his favorite mochi flavor, and playing LovEvolution this Saturday.
